Karimenga village – Herbs and the Fulani

Karimnga village where I stayed is absolutely charming.

If you walk around you will be rewarded with friendly faces, rustic charm and the occassional cheeky little chappy.

You will find people just doing everyday things.

Hanging out!

Collecting water

Grinding maize

Check out the gorgeous children at the village school

The second best thing about Karimenga was Ganu who was Ibrahim’s son and my designated guide during my 3 day trip. (see previous post on the green house lodge)

My 3 day tour organised by Jolanika included several activities and one of these was a visit to a small Fulani enclosure in the forest opposite Karimenga.

The Fulani are famous for cattle herding.

Their origins in this part of Ghana are that they come from Bukhina Fasso.

The women who we visited spend their day with general upkeep of the enclosure, preparing meals and looking after the children. This girl, as in the cover picture was only 16.

It’s a quiet and simple life.

Ganu also explained what bounty can be found in the forest and the many herbs they use to cure illnesses.

And even how to wash your hands.

The village has it own herbalist who is more than happy to share his knowledge with whatever ails you. With a cute face like that I’d happily trust him with my life.
