Kumasi Market – A market on steroids.

Kumasi or known locally as Kejetia market is absolute chaos but you gotta love it.

This is quite literally a market on steroids..

Estimated to have something in the region of 11,000 stalls and four times that many people working there it’s easy to see why this market is considered one of the largest in Africa.

Looking out over a tin roofed shanty town I was somewhat skeptical when I first saw this sprawling mass, but once you plunge in it’s almost an enjoyable experience.

Most of the stall holders are friendly and if you go about it in a jovial fashion most of them don’t mind being photographed.

Whatever you are looking for you are going to find it here. Be it that lovely new dress you have promised yourself.

Or that new watch.

And when you have had enough you can easily find a cab home.

A useful tip is that there is a large Barclay’s bank here with an ATM. I found it very useful.

Does everyone enjoy a market. Apparently not!

Tinyteddy’s feedback: You will notice there are no pics of me. Well I was not allowed to go and I was livid. Apparently the worry was that I would wonder off and never be found. Come off it. Have some faith. Incidentally that’s where that whole nonsense with me and the cat comes from. See “Tumi hostel post”
